Thai woman acquitted of 2015 Erawan shrine bombing that killed 20

A Thai court on Thursday acquitted a woman of involvement in a 2015 bomb attack on a popular Bangkok shrine that killed 20 people, most of them tourists.

Wanna Suansan was charged with complicity to murder, attempted murder and possession of an illegal explosive device following the explosion at Erawan Shrine in the heart of Bangkok’s main shopping district.

The Bangkok court ruled that there was insufficient evidence against the 36-year-old and acquitted her of all charges.

The main suspects in the attack, two Uighur men, are still on trial, although their case has dragged on for years.

Wanna, originally from the southern province of Phang-Nga, was accused of renting a property and supplying chemicals to the attackers.

But Wanna was in Turkey with her husband at the time of the blast, and the judge ruled that prosecutors had failed to prove any link between her and the main suspects.
