Two men arrested and charged with attempted sneaker robbery outside Towamencin Wawa, police say

TOWAMENCIN — A Norristown man wanted since June for four felony robberies in Towamencin Township has been arrested, arraigned on charges and released on $50,000 unsecured bond.

Levi Josiah Carroll, 20, of the 200 block of New Street, was allegedly one of three individuals who attempted to rob a teenager of his shoes and successfully stole a woman’s purse in the Wawa parking lot in March. Carroll was charged by Towamencin detectives in June, according to court records.

Authorities charged Carroll with two felony counts each of robbery causing immediate bodily harm and theft of property by force, and felony counts of assault and theft by unlawful taking, according to court records.

One of Carroll’s alleged accomplices, Chase Peklak, 19, of the 500 block of Hoffman Road, Lower Salford, is awaiting trial in Montgomery County Common Pleas Court on a robbery conspiracy charge. A third man has yet to be arraigned on the charges, according to court records.

On March 31, 2023 at 6:50 pm, police responded to the 200 Forty Foot Road Wawa for a reported fight inside a blue Nissan Altima, the caller reported that a man got out of a white Chevrolet Malibu with front end damage and entered in the Nissan, according to the complaint.

The victim told police he arranged a meeting through Facebook Marketplace to sell a $300 pair of sneakers to Carroll at Wawa, police said. Surveillance footage from Wawa shows a white Chevrolet Malibu entering the lot at 6:42 p.m., driven by Chase Peklak, 19, of the 500 block of Hoffman Road, Lower Salford, parked a few blocks away from the Nissan, a said the police.

The victim told police that Peklak and a passenger had ski masks, but he noticed a “309” tattoo on Peklak’s hand, police said.

At 6:43 p.m., police say Carroll, who was not wearing a mask, got out of the back of the Malibu and into the back of the Nissan, leaving both cars’ doors open.

The victim told police he recognized Carroll as a former North Penn High football player and the brother of one of their friends, according to the complaint.

Carroll, police allege, asked for the victim’s Cash app account and asked to get the shoes, then claimed he was having trouble with the app and said he would complete the payment when he returned to Malibu.

When the victim refused, Carroll allegedly became angry and reached for the shoes. The victim held on to the sneakers and Carroll allegedly said, “Don’t try anything.” He grabbed the victim’s arm, police said, struggled with his shoes and punched the victim in the face.

Carroll was unable to take the shoes, police said.

During the struggle, Peklak’s masked passenger got into the back of the Nissan and forcibly took the second victim’s purse, police said.

A preliminary hearing for Carroll is set for Dec. 4 at 2 p.m. before Magisterial District Judge Ed Levine.

All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using public court records.
