What we know about Bobby Portis’ home burglary

Milwaukee Bucks fan favorite Bobby Portis said his home was broken into while the team played a game Saturday night at Fiserv Forum against the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Portis took to social media on Sunday to say many of his valuables were taken during the alleged burglary.

Portis said in the post that he is offering rewards for information leading to the recovery of his property and the arrest of those involved in the alleged crimes.

In a video posted Sunday on X (formerly Twitter), Portis said he “considers Milwaukee home.”

“The love you’ve given me here is nothing I’ve ever felt in my NBA career. I always felt like I had to give back to you guys,” he said. “I tried to lift up the community and make Milwaukee a better place.”

Portis goes on to say in the video that during his time in Milwaukee, he worked with youth across the city and invited underserved groups to attend Bucks games.

“This is the place I call home, so why not make my house a better place.”

Portis, 29, just entered his 10th NBA season and fifth with the Bucks. Born in Mississippi and raised in Little Rock, Arkansas, Portis also played for the Chicago Bulls, New York Knicks and Washington Wizards before coming to Milwaukee to start the 2020-21 season.

“I know I got off to a horrible start to start the season, but while I was at my game (Saturday), I had a home invasion and they took most of my prized possession,” Portis said in the video.

Anyone with information about the break-in is asked to contact Portis at [email protected].

“Any information leading to the return of any of my possessions will be handsomely rewarded,” Portis said.

Portis also posted a minute-long video that appears to show two suspects outside his home.

Portis was a key member of the Bucks team that won the 2021 NBA title, the franchise’s first in 50 years and only their second. He has remained an important part of the team ever since. The 6-foot-10 forward finished third in voting for the 2023-2024 NBA Sixth Man of the Year.

Portis is renowned for his energy and passion during games that have won him over to the Milwaukee fan base since his arrival in the city. The Fiserv Forum often echoes as fans chant his name with the same enthusiasm he shows on the pitch.

The Bucks, who were expected to be among the top teams in the Eastern Conference, started the season with losses in five of their first six games. Portis is averaging about 11 points and nearly eight rebounds per game through the first six games, in line with his career averages. The Bucks return to action Monday night with a rematch against the undefeated Cavaliers in Cleveland.
