Two people caught with more than 200 grams of methamphetamine in Jefferson City face trafficking charges

Two Jefferson City men were charged with drug trafficking after a traffic stop Saturday.

Court documents show officers pulled over a Chrysler 300 in the 1300 block of Jefferson Street to execute a Cole County sheriff’s warrant.

The police found two bags, one with 108 grams of methamphetamine and one with 129 grams, a total of 237, on two women in the car.

The women said the drugs were not theirs. They said the driver, Matthew Hope, started screaming and panicking when they were pulled over.

Another man in the car, Damian Cotton, threw the bags of drugs at the women, who then hid the drugs.

The people in the car eventually said the drugs belonged to Cotton.

They also said they were returning to Jefferson City from Sikeston, Mo.

Hope and Cotton were taken to the Cole County Jail.

Prosecutors charged both Hope and Cotton with one count of drug trafficking/1st degree each.
