Coroner identifies woman killed in Shingletown shooting

The Shasta County Coroner’s Office identified the victim a fatal shooting in Shingletown as Jennifer Anne Sourp-Cain, 64, of Cloverdale, California.

Emergency personnel pronounced Sourp-Cain dead at the scene in the 34000 block of Side Bottom Road, according to a deputy coroner’s investigator. Authorities have notified his next of kin and a post-mortem examination has been scheduled.

The Shasta County Sheriff’s Office and Shasta County Coroner’s Office continue to investigate the case.

The man accused of killing Sourp-Cain, Joseph Colin Scribner, 46appeared in court Oct. 30 on charges of murder and assault with a firearm, along with a special charge of personal use of a firearm causing serious bodily injury or death. The charges are related to an incident on Oct. 25, 2024, when deputies responded to reports of a shooting victim at the same location.

Inside the home, deputies found a deceased woman with an apparent gunshot wound, now confirmed to be Sourp-Cain. Scribner apparently admitted to being at the scene at the time of the shooting.

Scribner’s lawyer asked for a two-week extension of the referral, which was granted. Scribner remains in custody at the Shasta County Jail without bond.
