Subway trains were halted near Ballston after a gunman allegedly ran into the tunnels.

Police were dispatched to the 7-Eleven store across Fairfax Drive in the Ballston Metro Station around 2:50 p.m. for an armed robbery. Initial reports suggest a man robbed the wine store and pulled out a gun when confronted.

The man then ran into the station and, according to police, possibly into the tunnels. A heavy police presence was on scene at the station as ACPD and Metro searched for the suspect.

As of 3:30 p.m., he was in custody, police said.

“ACPD is investigating an armed robbery at a business in the 4200 block of Fairfax Drive,” the police department said. on social networks. “The suspect was arrested after fleeing into the Ballston metro. Expect a continued police presence in the area.”
