Bomet health officer speaks out after child dies in hospital under unclear circumstances

Amos Khaemba, a journalist at TUKO.co.ke, brings over three years of experience in coverage POLICY and current affairs in Kenya.

BumChief Health Officer Felix Kipkorir Lang’at sent a message of condolence family of a child who died under mysterious circumstances at the Longisa County Referral Hospital.

On Sunday November 10, a viral video of a child moaning in pain at a hospital left Kenyans heartbroken at the state of healthcare in Bomet County.

In the footage, the nurses are seen having light conversations while the child lies unattended on the floor.

The two children, a boy and a girl, had been stung by bees and were rushed to the Longisa Hospital for treatment.

In a chilling narrative, a netizen who allegedly witnessed the incident claimed that the hospital demanded KSh 5,000 for ambulance service and a deposit of KSh 80,00 for referral to Tenwek AGC Hospital.

The child’s mother sought assistance from a PSV driver, who kindly agreed to rush the children to AGC Tenwek Hospital.

Unfortunately, one child succumbed to the pain and injuries caused by the bee attack on the road due to the delay in receiving treatment.

However, in a post on his Facebook page, Lang’at said county officials were engaging hospital management to determine what happened that led to the minor’s death.

Lang’at revealed that action will be taken against any health official found to have acted unprofessionally during the incident.

“We send our condolences to the little one’s family. We are currently working on it with full management. We will provide a full timeline of events in a few. Action will be taken against anyone found to be out of line, but the truth will be revealed after the meeting,” said Lang’at.
