NASHVILLE, Tn. (WBKO) – A Tennessee man is facing decades behind bars after authorities say he committed four armed robberies.

Frederick Eugene Carney, 34, of Murfreesboro, Tenn., was sentenced Friday to 32 years in federal prison for robbery, bank robbery, illegal possession of ammunition and brandishing or discharging a firearm in furtherance of a felony of violence. Acting United States Attorney Thomas J. Jaworski for the Middle District of Tennessee made the announcement.

The convictions relate to the armed robberies of two Cash Express businesses in Ardmore, Tenn., and Greenbrier, Tenn., as well as the armed robberies of Regions Bank in Smyrna, Tenn., and First Horizon Bank on Whites Creek Pike in Nashville. Authorities say the crime took place between March 24 and May 2, 2022.

Additionally, authorities say during the armed robbery at Regions Bank, Carney and William John Ewing III, 27, of Nashville stole more than $15,000 in currency. Ewing’s sentencing is scheduled for January 23, 2025. He could be sentenced from 7 years to life in federal prison for bank robbery and possession of a firearm during a crime of violence.

This case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Nashville Field Office; Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives; Metropolitan Nashville Police Department; Murfreesboro Police Department; Ardmore Police Department; Greenbrier Police Department; Smyrna Police Department; and the Moulton, Alabama Police Department.

Assistant US Attorney Joseph P. Montminy prosecuted the case.
