Police are looking for the driver in the crash that killed a passenger

WOODBRIDGE – Police are searching for the driver of a car involved in a single-car crash Friday that left a passenger dead, authorities said.

The driver is believed to have fled the scene.

Authorities continue to investigate the single-car crash that killed 47-year-old Mario Ortiz Bonilla, a North Plainfield man, Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone and Woodbridge Police Department Director Robert Hubner said.

According to the Prosecutor’s Office, on Friday, at 9:05 a.m., the police intervened in the area of ​​Road 9 and Strada Verde in the locality following the report of an accident. At the scene, authorities found a 2017 Kia Sportage that was occupied only by Bonilla, the front passenger.

Bonilla succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, officials said.

An investigation led by Detective Jeffery Horvath of the Woodbridge Police Department and Detective Matthew Colonna of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office determined that the driver of the Kia Sportage fled the scene.
