JonBenét Ramsey’s father talks DNA test ‘could solve’ murder 28 years later – US News

It’s been nearly three decades since JonBenét Ramsey was killed after her family received a ransom note demanding $118,000 for her safe return.

JonBenét was just six years old when she was abducted from her home in Boulder, Colorado, on Boxing Day (December 26) in 1996 – after being beaten, sexually assaulted and then strangled to death in their house.

Police they managed to recover a murder weapon that was used to kill JonBenét – a tourniquet – and after examining it, they recovered the DNA of an unknown man.

But she is now 80 years old father John Bennett Ramsey claimed that detectives stopped their investigation at this point because they had not run the DNA through their database.

He appeared on NBC’s The Today Show this morning (November 21) to discuss Netflix new in three parts documentation Cold Case: Who Killed JonBenét Ramsey which will premiere on Monday (November 25).

Ramsey said: “There have been some horrendous failures in that space over the last 25 years. Hopefully there is someone out there who knows something that would come forward, so we want to keep the case alive and in front of people.

“I think it can be solved if the police accept help from outside their system – that’s been the flaw for 25 years. For 25 years, the police department was held; very poor driving. Tragically, they had no experience.

“The college that investigated our case for 25 years was an auto theft investigator before taking the case. It was a roadblock.”

He continued: “They would not accept outside help. Now we are full of hope with the new police boss that he will exercise good leadership and accept help.

“As far as I know, they haven’t worked with federal agencies and given themselves this much.

“I will not stop pressing the authorities to do their job until I see them do their job. And that has been the frustration of 25 years.”

Just two months before his appearance, he appeared in the series True Crime News, host Ana Garcia pointed out that seven items considered “critical evidence” for the case remain untested for DNA.

John replied: “As far as we know, that is correct. These articles were originally posted in January 1997 to laboratory for testing were returned untested.”

The episode is the first in the new series, which will examine a high profile the real crime as well as lesser known cases covered in the local news.

The Boulder Police Department told UNILAD: “The killing of JonBenet was an unspeakable crime and this tragedy has never left our hearts,” said Boulder Police Chief Steve Redfearn.

“We are committed to following every lead and continue to work with DNA experts and our law enforcement partners across the country until this tragic case is solved. This investigation will always be a priority for the Boulder Police Department.”
