5 Stolen Guns Recovered in Tigard Domestic Violence Jail

TIGARD Hours. (KPTV) – More than five stolen guns have been recovered after a man was arrested for threatening and assaulting a woman, the Tigard Police Department (TPD) said.

Around 1:30 a.m. Tuesday, officers were called to a disturbance with a gun in the 700 block of Southwest Taylors Ferry Road.

Responding officers were told a man pointed a gun at a woman, threatened to shoot her, punched her in the face and chased her with a hatchet. The woman made it safely outside before officers arrived.

The man has been identified as 43-year-old Jason Alan Smith, who is a convicted felon and does not have a legal permit to own weapons.

Smith had a large gun safe in the house. Through a search warrant authorized by a judge, police opened the safe and found 16 guns. Guns ranged from handguns to rifles and shotguns.

According to TPD, many of the weapons did not have serial numbers. Officers were able to confirm that at least 5 guns were stolen in a burglary in Clackamas County earlier this year.

Smith was arrested on charges of second-degree kidnapping, fourth-degree assault, felon in possession of a weapon, unlawful use of a weapon, menacing and coercion.
