Nevada man sentenced to 30 years in prison for running dark web drug operation

LAS VEGAS, Nev. (KOLO) – A Las Vegas man will spend the next 30 years in prison after being convicted of running a multi-million dollar drug trafficking operation on the dark web.

Oluwole Adegboruwa will also forfeit more than $20 million, among the largest forfeitures in the history of the United States Attorney’s Office, and serve life on parole.

Adegboruwa’s sentence comes after a jury also found his co-defendant, Enrique Isong of Los Angeles, guilty of drug charges in May.

The court found that from October 2016 to May 2019, Adegboruwa sold more than 300,000 oxycodone pills on dark web markets to customers in the US, earning about $9.1 million. The jury also found that Adegboruwa was undoubtedly in charge of this drug empire.

Each member of the conspiracy performed different roles. The court found that some were tasked with locating and procuring pharmaceutical-grade pills that were resold through the dark web, while others were involved in packaging the pills and/or delivering them to customers.

Adegboruwa admitted to controlling sales on dark web markets and currency accounts, including crypto accounts through which they received most of their profits. Adegboruwa also admitted that he was the one who decided to start the online dark web drug selling operation.

“Money laundering continues to be a top investigative priority for the IRS-CI,” said Special Agent in Charge Carissa Messick for the IRS’s Phoenix Office of Criminal Investigation. “In this case alone, the amount of the forfeiture highlights the breadth of the investigation conducted by IRS-CI Special Agents, its impact on our community, and IRS-CI’s tireless commitment to uncovering illegal schemes by tracking the money.”
