Pulaski County is creating a department to help combat the effects of opioids on the community

PULASKI COUNTY, Va. (WDBJ) – Pulaski County, Va., has named Katie Thompson the first director of the Office of Drug Prevention and Recovery.

Here @ Home sat down with Thompson about her new role and the newly created department.

Her new and unique role will be to comprehensively oversee drug use prevention, recovery and restoration efforts in Pulaski County.

The county will fund the new office with settlement money handed out by the Virginia Opioid Reduction Authority (OAA).

The goal of the County Drug Prevention and Recovery Office Oversight Board is to meet people where they are and provide them with the drug prevention programs, tools and resources they need; to work more effectively with our community, non-profit and NGO partners for prevention, recovery and restoration; and, to provide a greater level of acute focus and accountability on the variety of programs and services that fall within these areas.
