Three injured in Lafayette house fire

Three people were injured in a house fire Friday in Lafayette,

The Lafayette Fire Department responded to a fire in the 300 block of Anne Street at noon after receiving multiple calls of a house on fire with possible victims inside, according to a department spokesman.

When firefighters arrived on scene, the single family home was fully involved. The fire quickly spread to a house next door. As firefighters began search operations, an elderly woman and her grandson came out the back door. Firefighters provided them with initial medical assistance until an Acadian Ambulance arrived on the scene. The two occupants were later transported to a local hospital for smoke inhalation and further evaluation, the spokesman said.

The home sustained heavy fire damage. Radiant heat from the fire ignited the house next door. The neighbor’s house also suffered fire damage.

Several fire units were dispatched to the scene to assist. During firefighting activities, one firefighter sustained minor injuries. He was also transported to a local hospital for evaluation.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
