Witnesses recall moments before accident on Kakamega-Kisumu highway that killed 10 on the spot

More than ten people died as a result of one accident that occurred along Kakamega-Kisumu highway on Wednesday, November 13 evening.

The horrific road accident occurred at Iguhu area, Yala bridge, involving a tanker truck heading to Kakamega from Kisumu which hit two 14-seater matatus.

10 people died on the spot while 20 others sustained injuries in the impact, as reported by NTV Kenya.

The bodies were moved to Kakamega County General and reference hospital morgue while the injured were rushed to the nearest hospitals for treatment.

Witnesses recall the moment before the Kakamega-Kisumu road accident

The locals present in the area when the accident occurred spoke to the press, explaining what happened before the tragedy.

A witness said the accident was a national disaster as many people died and still don’t know why the trailer lost control and hit two matatus.

“We can refer to this accident as a national disaster because it involves large vehicles. The trailer was heading towards Kakamega while the two matatu were heading towards Kisumu.

We are yet to understand whether the trailer lost its breaks but all the passengers inside the two matatu lost their lives,” he said.

Another witness said the trailer was speeding and lost control when it hit a bump where it hit a matatuwho hit another.

“The trailer lost control; he was traveling at a very high speed and on reaching this bump he lost control and collided with one of the passenger vehicles which hit the other behind him.

We tried to save as many people as we could. Even though many died, the injured were shifted to nearby hospitals for medical attention,” he explained.

In separate news, TUKO.co.ke reported that a Chavakali Boys High School the teacher shared the day his car overturned at Iguhu black spot on the Kisumu-Kakamega highway.

He stated that a trailer carrying sugarcane had a mechanical problem and was parked in his lane and when he tried to avoid it, he almost collided with a bus.

As a result, he swerved to avoid the collision, a move that caused his car to roll individually nearly killing him.
