A large cold front with widespread rain on the way

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) – A cold night is expected with temperatures in the low 40s with a light northeast wind.

WEDNESDAY: Sun in the morning with rapidly increasing clouds in the afternoon. A few showers are possible by sunset in the Cumberland Plateau. Highs will be in the mid to upper 60s.

WEDNESDAY EVENING: A round of rain or thunderstorms will pass, especially after midnight. Half an inch to an inch of rain is possible. Lows will be in the 40s and 50s.

FIRST DAY WEATHER ALERT FOR RAINY COMMUTER THURSDAY MORNING: The rain will continue to move through Thursday morning, which could cause puddles on the roads. It will taper off to showers by the afternoon. Highs will likely remain in the 50s in most areas.

FRIDAY: Partly cloudy early, then partly cloudy in the afternoon. A stray shower cannot be ruled out, especially at higher elevations. Highs will be in the upper 50s to around 60. Lows will be in the low to mid 40s.

WEEKEND FORECAST

A good source of sunshine is expected, with highs in the upper 60s and lows in the lower 40s.

NEXT WEEK

Partly cloudy Monday and Tuesday with highs in the upper 60s. Rain chances will return by Wednesday or Thursday.
