New London man, 70, filed claims before wounding 2, killed himself in apartment shooting

NEW LONDON, Ohio (WOIO) – New London Police Chief Joseph Hicks released new information Saturday about a shooting at an apartment complex that left one dead and two injured.

According to Chief Hicks, the 70-year-old suspect submitted multiple requests for repairs to his apartment and felt his “requests were not adequately met.”

The suspect was also preparing for an upcoming site inspection when he shot two of the office workers at the Windy Acres assisted living complex on Friday.

Officers were called to the complex just before 11 a.m. for an active shooter.

According to Chief Hicks, police discovered that the two injured employees had escaped through a window in a locked office.

A 56-year-old worker suffered a head injury and a 52-year-old worker suffered an upper torso injury, according to Chief Hicks.

Both victims were taken to the hospital and later released at home.

The 70-year-old suspect was a resident of the complex and shot himself.
