Christmas Valley, known for its agricultural roots, especially alfalfa, is located about two hours from Bend. This community-based clinic provided essential services at little or no cost, addressing the pressing issue of pet overpopulation and preventing overcrowding in shelters by reducing unwanted litter.

This weekend’s clinic was made even more impactful by Petco Lovewho generously donated hundreds of vaccines. This support has allowed Street Dog Hero to provide free vaccinations to animals in need.

“A special thank you to the Christmas Valley community for your participation and trust,” says Street Dog Hero Executive Director Kristen Elrod. “We are extremely grateful to our veterinary team: Dr. Tabitha Johnston, Ph.D. Maas, Dr. Lindsey Smith and Dr. Courtney McLaughlin.

“We also want to thank all the local volunteers and veterinary technicians in Bend who worked tirelessly to make sure the clinic was a huge success. And thanks to our rescue partners, Kathy, Karen and Becky, who are starting a much-needed animal rescue in the area, Humane Society of North Lake County. Their efforts have been instrumental in spreading the word about the clinic within the community,” added Elrod.

Every surgery performed at these clinics plays a vital role in preventing unwanted litters and has a lasting positive impact on the community.
