Police shooting in St. Paul: BCA identify man killed, officers involved

The man who was fatal shot by police St. Paul on November 9along with the officers who fired the weapons, have been identified.

What we know

The Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the man who died in a Nov. 9 police shooting as 36-year-old Mychel Allan Stowers. release on Monday.

Stowers was charged in October with murdering his pregnant ex-wifeDamara Slexis Stowers, after being released from prison after serving 16 years for a murder conviction.

The BCA also identified officers from the St. Louis Police Department. Paul who fired their guns as:

  • Officer Eric Jaworski unloaded his rifle. Officer Jaworski has 10 years of law enforcement experience.
  • Officer Matthew Foy unloaded his gun. Officer Foy has 10 years of law enforcement experience.

Both are on critical incident leave, the BCA said.

What happened?

BCA says Stowers was wanted in connection with the murder of his pregnant ex-wife in Saint Paul. Police were acting on a tip that he was at a business in the 1100 block of West Seventh Street when he encountered a man matching his description.

According to BCA’s preliminary investigation, a man left the business on a bicycle and several teams converged on him when he reached the intersection of Watson Avenue and Bay Street. Before police could confirm his identity, the man — now identified as Stowers — pulled out a gun and pointed it at police.

Jaworski and Foy fired their guns, striking Stowers. Police provided aid until the St. John’s Fire Department medics arrived. Paul.

Stowers was taken by ambulance to Regions Hospital, where he died.

No one else was injured in the incident.

The incident was captured on body-worn cameras, crew cameras and neighborhood security camera video.

A gun was recovered from where Stowers was shot.

The BCA investigation is ongoing. Once completed, the BCA will present its findings to the Ramsey County District Attorney’s office for review.
