Apple will let you share AirTag locations with a link

Apple will now let you share the location of a lost AirTag with others. The Find Me feature, called Share the location of the item and available as part of the recently released iOS 18.2 public beta, will let you share the location of lost luggage with an airline, for example.

When you use the feature, you can generate a Share item location link in the Find Me app on an iPhone, iPad, or Mac. Once you share the link with someone, they can click on it to see an interactive map of your item’s location. lost. Apple will automatically update the website when the lost item moves and also display a timestamp of when it was last moved.

Apple will disable the feature once you find the lost item. You can also manually stop sharing an AirTag’s location at any time, or the link will “automatically expire after seven days.”

The ability to share the location of your AirTag. is available in “most regions worldwide” as part of the iOS 18.2 public beta. If you don’t have the beta, Apple plans to roll out the update to all users with an iPhone X or later “soon.” MacRumors reported last week about the ability of the second developer beta of iOS 18.2.

As part of the launch, Apple is partnering with more than 15 airlines, including Delta, United, Virgin Atlantic, Lufthansa, Air Canada and more. All of these airlines will be able to “privately and securely” accept links to lost items, as “access to each link will be limited to a small number of people and recipients will be required to log in to see the link through either their Apple Account or their partner’s email address.” This feature will be available to airlines in the “coming months.”

In addition, SITA, a baggage tracking solution, will also implement Share Item Location in its baggage tracker.
