David Bau and Nathan Hulinsky, extension educators in agricultural business management, will provide several ways to determine a fair farmland rental rate for both landlords and farmers – through examples, fact sheets and worksheets.

In-person meetings to be held in west-central Minnesota include sessions in Litchfield, Olivia and Madison.

The

The Litchfield meeting

is set for 9:30 a.m. Nov. 13 at the Meeker County Extension Office on the fairgrounds at 1230 North Armstrong Ave.

The

Madison meeting

The

meeting with Olivia

is set for 1:30 p.m. Dec. 5 at the Renville County Government Center, rooms 116 and 117, 105 South Fifth St.

Topics covered at the meetings will include local, historical and forecast trends in farmland rental rates, current farmland values and sales, and a worksheet to help determine a fair lease.

Input costs for 2025 will be presented along with current corn and soybean prices in 2024. The worksheets will examine 2025 costs and affordable rental rates in 2025, the owner’s rate of return at current market values, and examine flexible leases.

Several other meetings are planned around the state, and there are a handful of webinars that will be presented via Zoom video meeting software. See
