Signs and tips to prevent type 2 diabetes

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) – November is National Diabetes Month because the disease affects an estimated 38 million Americans, including children.

Diabetes occurs when one’s blood sugar or blood sugar is too high. The disease can affect the eyes, kidneys, nerves and heart. It is also linked to some types of cancer.

People are more likely to develop type 2 diabetes if they are:

  • Excess weight
  • 35 years or more
  • have a family history of diabetes
  • is not physically active

Experts at UW Health say it’s important to remember the ABCs of diabetes, which can help prevent the disease.

  • A is for the A1C test which measures average blood glucose levels. People with diabetes can use the device to track their blood sugar.
  • B is for blood pressure
  • C is for cholesterol

A GLP-1 agonist can be injected into the body, which helps the body release insulin, slow digestion, reduce blood sugar spikes, and reduce appetite.
