SURREY, BC — Police say a Surrey, BC officer was stabbed during an arrest related to a vehicle theft investigation.

RCMP say officers working a series of suspected motor vehicle thefts found a man and woman connected to the case near a warehouse on Tuesday.

Police say the pair were arrested, but a male officer was stabbed by the male suspect as he tried to escape.

They say the officer suffered serious but non-life threatening injuries and was taken to the hospital, treated and released.

The male suspect suffered minor injuries during the arrest but was treated and released into police custody.

He faces multiple charges including assault, possession of property obtained by crime and failing to comply with conditions of a release order and remains in custody.

The 35-year-old woman faces a charge of possession of property obtained by crime and has been released on conditions. Both are due to appear in court on November 26.
