HYDERABAD: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) special court in Hyderabad has sentenced six Bangladeshi nationals to life imprisonment in a human trafficking case in which women were forced into prostitution.

Convicted persons Mohd Yousuf Khan, his wife Bithi Begum, Sojib Ruhul Amin Dhali, Mohd Abdul Salam Kounla Justin and Sheela Justin alias Shiuli Khatun were arrested by NIA in 2019 and found guilty under various sections of IPC and Immoral Traffic (Prevention ) Act, 1986.

The sixth accused, Dhali, was arrested in West Bengal. The rest were caught from Telangana between 2019 and 2020. The special court, in its orders on Wednesday, also imposed a fine of Rs 24,000, apart from the life sentence, which is generally 14 years.

In case of non-payment, the accused faces another 18 months simple imprisonment.

The NIA investigation revealed that the accused lured women from Bangladesh with the promise of lucrative jobs and decent wages and trafficked them from Bangladesh to India, where they were forced into prostitution.

The Telangana police initially registered the case at Chatrinaka police station after they rescued five young women from a house in Kandikal Gate area of ​​Uppuguda, Hyderabad during an operation in August 2019. The NIA took over the investigation and re-registered the case on 17 September. , 2019.

The agency filed a charge sheet against four of the accused on March 10, 2020, followed by an additional case against the two in August 2020.
