Homeless man cited for drug possession and public consumption charged with robbery in previous incident: Riverhead Police

Riverhead Town Police charged a 49-year-old homeless man in a robbery on Lincoln Street Wednesday morning and are looking for a second suspect in connection with the incident.

Police said in a news release last night that they received a 911 call at 9:44 a.m. yesterday from a man who reported being robbed by two men on Lincoln Street near Hallett Avenue. The victim reported that two men forcibly removed her wallet, which contained cash and a credit card, and then fled the area, according to the news release.

Responding officers with the assistance of a Riverhead police K-9 unit searched the area with negative results, police said.

Yesterday afternoon around 1:40pm at Roanoke Avenue and Pulaski Street, police arrested 49-year-old Richard Street on drug possession, harassment, public consumption of alcohol and resisting arrest charges , according to the report.

After his arrest, police detectives identified Street as one of the suspects wanted in yesterday morning’s robbery and charged him with second-degree robbery in connection with the earlier incident, police said.

Riverhead Police detectives continue to investigate the robbery and are working to identify the second suspect.

In addition to the second-degree robbery charge, police said Street was charged with the following as a result of his arrest yesterday afternoon: possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree, a class A misdemeanor; Resisting arrest, a class A misdemeanor; Harassment in the second degree, a misdemeanor; and Consumption of alcohol in a public place in violation of Riverhead City Code.

Strada was arraigned in Riverhead Town Court, police said.
