One of the Johnny Depphis lawyers believe that Sean “Diddy” Combs will have to take the stand his trial next year — especially when it comes to discussing the video of him assaulting his ex-girlfriend Cassandra “Cassie” Ventura.

“That will force him to testify,” lawyer Benjamin Chew said when discussing the video during an episode of Piers Morgan uncensoredwhich premiered on Friday, October 25. “I think he’s going to have to do a lot better than he did in that apology video if he’s going to get one or two jurors to hang that jury.”

Chew noted that “the video is so damaging, in any trial, whether it’s criminal or civil, because it’s hard to explain.” The lawyer also referred to the “devastating” video of Diddy, 54, and Cassie, 38. (Chew was colead counsel in Depp’s defamation case against Amber Heardwhich he won in 2022. Chew is not involved in Diddy’s case.)

Security footage of the hotel from 2016 was released by CNN in May and Diddy showed her assaulting Cassie in the lobby of the now closed InterContinental Hotel in Los Angeles. The rapper released a video on social media apologizing for his actions since then. (Diddy and Cassie were in an on-and-off relationship from 2007 to 2018. She filed a lawsuit against the rapper in November 2023, accusing him of abuse. The lawsuit was settled a day later.)

“He needs to explain, to say he’s terribly sorry for that, but that was an aberration, it’s not who he is. They just have to say it,” the lawyer said Piers Morgan uncensored. “He has to own it and say, ‘I did a horrible thing. I will regret it for the rest of my life, but that doesn’t mean I got involved in sex trafficking.” He has to look the jury in the eye and say it and say it convincingly.”

Chew continued, “When he said he was sorry, it didn’t ring true. I’d like to see more excitement there.”

Diddy was arrested in Manhattan last month and is currently being held at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn. He pleaded not guilty on charges of racketeering conspiracy, forced sex trafficking, fraud or coercion and transportation to engage in prostitution. Several accusers have also filed lawsuits against Diddy, and he has since denied those allegations.

CNN video of Diddy allegedly assaulting Cassie could be key part of music mogul's lawsuit

CNN’s recently unearthed footage of Sean “Diddy” Combs assaulting now-ex Cassie may be a key part of prosecutors’ evidence. “It was our team, we broke the video of Cassie being horribly and violently abused, which came up a lot during the court proceedings last week when he was charged,” the journalist (…)

Chew also speculated about charges are filed against Diddy.

“I’m afraid he may never see the light of day, these are extraordinarily serious offenses that he’s charged with, so if he’s found guilty of some or all of them I think he’d be a very old man by when it will come out, if it comes out at all,” he said.
