Jon Stewart Says John Fetterman Canceled ‘Daily Show’ Election Day Interview ’30 Seconds’ Before It Went Live

Pennsylvania Sen. John Fetterman, who was scheduled to appear virtually for an interview with Jon Stewart on “The Daily Show” live election special Tuesday night, canceled 30 seconds before his segment.

Stewart announced that the politician, currently in court in his home state of Pennsylvania, would no longer be joining him for the planned interview.

“(Fetterman) was unable to join us,” Stewart announced after the show’s first commercial break. “But because we’re a professional and respected news show, I don’t have to sit here … with no one to talk to or nothing to do just because someone said 30 seconds before that we had to have him on .”

“It’s not happening,” he continued through nervous laughter.

Instead, Arizona’s Democratic governor, Katie Hobbs, called in, where she reported that since polls closed at 7 p.m., the state is just starting to see the first results. “It’s probably going to be a long night, probably a long few days, as we count the results of the votes,” she told Stewart and viewers during a video call.

The 2024 election has turned out to be one of the closest races in recent history, with polls pointing toward a close finish between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris in swing states. As of this writing, media outlets have declared Trump the winner of North Carolina, the first of seven key states up for grabs.

Meanwhile, Harris’ campaign continues to hope that she will prevail in the “blue wall” states of Pennsylvania, Wisconsin and Michigan.
