Plymouth man arrested for DUI and speeding on Route 8

WATERTOWN, CT (WFSB) A 26-year-old Plymouth man was arrested Saturday night after speeding on Route 8 and driving under the influence of alcohol.

According to Connecticut State Police, a trooper was conducting proactive speed enforcement on northbound Route 8 near Exit 34 in Watertown when he observed a pickup truck traveling 83 mph — well over the posted speed limit of 55 mph.

The officer initiated a traffic stop on the Exit 34 exit ramp and the driver, later identified as Dakota Arsenault of Plymouth, complied with the stop on the right side of the road.

Upon checking the vehicle’s Connecticut registration, the trooper discovered that it was suspended for lack of insurance and that the registration did not match the truck.

Arsenault admitted the vehicle was neither registered nor insured.

Further investigation revealed that Arsenault had been drinking.

He was later arrested and charged with several offences, including driving an unregistered motor vehicle, misuse of registration, speeding over 70 mph on a restricted highway and driving a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol.

Chemical tests from Troop L confirmed that Arsenault’s blood alcohol level was over the legal limit.

Arsenault was released from custody on $500 bond and is scheduled to appear in Waterbury Superior Court on November 13, 2024.
