One found dead after a fire in a vacant apartment in South Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – One person was found dead after a fire at a vacant apartment building on Las Vegas Boulevard near Silverado Ranch around 3:15 a.m. Saturday.

Dennis Snapp, president of the Paradise Spa Homeowners Association, said the property is in the process of foreclosure and there are many vacant units like the one where this fire started.

“We had a fire in a vacant unit that burned 4 units,” he told FOX5.

The Clark County Fire Department said they found one body during the search after battling the flames.

The victim has not been identified and the cause of death is still under investigation.

However, Snapp does not believe he was a resident of the complex.

“The building was secured yesterday before the close of business at 5:00 a.m.,” he said.

Snapp also says this isn’t the first, second or third time a building in the same complex has caught fire.

“One was caused by a homeless person who moved into an empty unit, stole power from another unit and set the building on fire,” Snapp said. “One was caused by a lady throwing water on a grease fire. The fire near us here was caused by children playing with matches in the cupboard.”

The cause of Saturday’s deadly fire is still under investigation.
