Swift Current RCMP are looking for two men with firearm-related assaults

Two men are wanted in connection with altercations involving a weapon, theft, burglary and assault.

Swift Current RCMP are looking for Nicolas Belanger, 35, of Medicine Hat, and Mathew Neufeld, 28, of Swift Current in connection with two incidents.

On October 25, police received a report of a discharged firearm during an altercation on Herbert Street. They have not yet received any reports of injuries.

RCMP reported that on Oct. 29 at 6 a.m. they responded to a burglary at a residence on 10th Avenue NW in Swift Current.

Several people are said to have entered the home with a firearm and assaulted two occupants inside. The firearm was not recovered, but the suspects stole money and a vehicle.

Police recovered the vehicle a short time later, and the suspects are still at large.

Nicholas Belanger, 35, of Medicine Hat, AB and Mathew Neufeld, 28, of Swift Current, SK are each charged with:

  • one count, break and enter, Section 348(1)(b), Penal Code;
  • two counts of assault with bodily injury, Section 267(b), Penal Code;
  • one count, theft over $5,000, Penal Code section 334(a);
  • one count, theft under $5000, Section 334(b), Penal Code; and
  • one count, disguised with intent to commit offence, section 351(2), Penal Code.

Nicholas Belanger is additionally charged with:

  • one count, robbery with a firearm, Section 344(1)(a), Penal Code;
  • one count, assault with a weapon, Penal Code section 267(a);
  • one count, negligent use of a firearm, Section 86(1), Penal Code;
  • one count, pointing a firearm, Section 87(1), Penal Code;
  • one count, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, Section 88(1), Penal Code;
  • one count, dangerously discharging a firearm, Section 244(1), Penal Code; and
  • six counts, failure to comply with probation order, Section 733.1(1), Penal Code.

RCMP believe Nicholas Belanger and Mathew Neufeld may be in the Swift Current or Medicine Hat areas, but their current whereabouts are unknown. If you see Nicholas Belanger or Mathew Neufeld, do not approach them.
