Man convicted of 15 crimes in 2 criminal schemes

A man was found guilty Tuesday in Kern County Superior Court of 15 felonies related to two criminal schemes, the County Attorney’s Office announced Wednesday.

Four times in December 2016, Jacob McNabb hit the victims with his vehicle, filed insurance claims, avoided fixing his car and pocketed the money for the repairs by falsely claiming pre-existing damage from the collisions, according to the office the prosecutor’s office. He said he was found guilty of making false insurance claims and making multiple claims for the same collision.

Separately, it said, McNabb committed fraud on the court from September 2015 to November 2019 by filing false documents in nine small claims lawsuits. He intentionally failed to notify the people he was suing, then claimed they were properly notified, the DA’s office reported, thereby defrauding 15 victims. He was convicted of perjury, identity theft and filing false court documents for this scheme.

His sentencing is set for Dec. 9, when he faces up to 17 years in prison.
