Good morning and welcome as we resume our coverage of the aftermath devastating floods which hit parts of Spain earlier this week, particularly affecting the Valencia region.

As rescue and recovery operations resume this morning, the Spanish government confirmed a short time ago that an additional 10,000 troops would be sent to Valencia.

Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez gave an update on the death toll during his speech, saying 211 people are now known to have died and many are still missing.

Sanchez insisted that recovery operations must be carried out “quickly” but in such a way as to preserve the “dignity” of the victims and their families.
