The two Palestinian organizations revealed that all previous reports were insufficient “to reflect the level of brutality” practiced.

The Prisoners’ Affairs Commission and the Palestinian Prisoners’ Society have revealed the “degrading and shocking conditions” Palestinian prisoners in Gaza face in Israel’s notorious Ofer prison.

A report by the two Palestinian rights organizations published on Thursday follows recent visits by their legal team to nine detainees in the Strip.

The report highlighted the systematic torture these detainees are subjected to, which was described as “theft and deprivation of rights of detainees”.

The report establishedbased on the testimonies of the prisoners, that all previous reports by human rights organizations are insufficient “to reflect the level of brutality that has been and is being practiced against detainees in Gaza.”

Psychological torture

According to the reportone of the methods of psychological torture aimed at humiliating Palestinian prisoners is forcing them to sing to a so-called “captain” “Thank you captain” in Hebrew.ew. Those wApparently those who refuse to comply are severely punished.

Detainees have spoken extensively to lawyers about the “humiliating and degrading positions they are forced to endure.

One example of these humiliating positions is being forced to “sit on your knees or stomach in the camp yard for long hours during telephone hearings.

No Medical Attention

Regarding medical treatment, Palestinian detainees told lawyers for Palestinian organizations that the prison administration continues to deny them medical care.

Some of the detainees who were allowed to speak to the legal team “suffered from injuries and wounds that have not healed as a result of systematic lack of treatment”.

The two Palestinian human rights groups expressed deep concern in their report about the spread of skin diseases among Gazan detainees, given the occupation authorities’ continued policy of depriving them of hygiene products.

“Inmates have been forced to shower without soap for several months, and through follow-up, the lack of personal hygiene tools has been the main reason for the spread of skin diseases among inmates and inmates in the various prisons,” the reports said. .

Palestinian detainees also mentioned suffering from the cold, especially at night, due to the Israeli occupation authorities’ lack of adequate clothing and covers.

“As is the case with thousands of prisoners and detainees in Israeli prisons and camps, the occupation, as part of its systematic policies, is to turn cold weather conditions into a tool for the abuse and torture of detainees,” the report said.

The Spirit of Vengeance

The report by the two organizations pointed out that a spirit of revenge reigns among Israeli occupation soldiers and prison guards, competing to be more brutal towards Palestinian prisoners.

The report went on to highlight the main challenges that rights organizations face in addressing the issue of detainees in Gaza, particularly with regard to THE “enforced disappearance” of hundreds of detainees in Gaza.

The two organizations said some of these challenges include ignoring the precise number of Gazans in Israeli occupation prisons and the “unprecedented level of brutality” that includes, but is not limited to, crimes of “torture, abuse and the crime of famine”. , in addition to systematic medical crimes, sexual assaults and their use as human shields.”

One of the other obstacles mentioned in the report is that the Israeli occupation authority “continues to prevent the International Committee of the Red Cross from visiting all prisoners and detainees.

The Detainee Affairs Commission and the Palestinian Prisoners’ Society revealed at the end of their report the names of some of the prisoners at Ofer Prison based on accounts of prisoners they were able to speak to.

Of the 45 Palestinian prisoners named in the report, five are children.

Death toll rising

In violation of a UN Security Council resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire, Israel has faced international condemnation amid its continued brutal offensive on Gaza.

Currently on trial before the International Court of Justice for genocide against the Palestinians, Israel has been waging a devastating war in Gaza since October 7.

According to the Gaza Ministry of Health, 43,204 Palestinians have been killed and 101,641 injured in Israel’s ongoing genocide in Gaza as of October 7, 2023.

Moreover, at least 11,000 people are missing, presumed dead under the rubble of their homes throughout the Strip.

Israel says 1,200 soldiers and civilians were killed during Operation Al-Aqsa Flood on October 7. Israeli media published reports suggesting that many Israelis were killed that day by “friendly fire”.

Palestinian and international organizations say most of those killed and injured are women and children.

The Israeli war led to an acute famine, especially in northern Gaza, which resulted in the death of many Palestinians, most of them children.

The Israeli aggression has also led to the forced displacement of nearly two million people from across the Gaza Strip, with the vast majority of the displaced forced into the densely populated southern city of Rafah near the Egyptian border – in what has become the most sea from Palestine. mass exodus since the Nakba of 1948.

Later in the war, hundreds of thousands of Palestinians began moving from southern Gaza to central Gaza in a constant search for safety.
