Steelers’ Russell Wilson makes Colin Cowherd admit he was wrong

The Pittsburgh Steelers are now 2-0 in Russell Wilson era. Wilson really opened up the passing game, something Justin Fields has been inconsistent through his first six starts this season. Wilson has thrown for 542 yards and three touchdowns in the first two games and looks to be improving. With many people questioning the decision to bench Fields in favor of Wilson (even though they were 4-2 to start the season), it looks like Wilson is making some of his critics admit they were wrong about his.

Colin Cowherd he is one of the first to admit his mistake. On his YouTube channel, The Colin Cowherd Podcasthe talked about his big performances so far this season. While it starts with the innings he’s gotten from the Washington Commanders being a playoff team to the San Francisco 49ers peaking last season and showing flaws this season, he admits he’s been wrong when it comes to the Steelers.

“I think what Mike Tomlin has shown throughout this season, and I’m wrong about that, is that I always felt he was a little tone-deaf on offense, but with the rotation of Kenny Pickett, Mason Rudolph and Justin Fields, who had a winning record and settled on Russell Wilson, I think that shows he’s more aware than I gave him credit for,” Cowherd said.

Cowherd still doesn’t think Wilson is good enough to help lead Pittsburgh to a Super Bowl, but he agrees he’s the best quarterback option they’ve had since. Ben Roethlisberger. He really thinks the Steelers can win the AFC North and win more games against their tough front than many would have thought (but still thinks the Baltimore Ravens are the favorites).

Mike Tomlin gambled on switching quarterbacks midseason, especially with a winning record. It seems like it was the right move to make. The Steelers’ offense is averaging 31.5 points with Wilson behind center and 271 through the air, compared to Fields’ 184 yards per pass average.

With Wilson at the helm, other unnamed receivers George Pickens get involved in the action. Van Jefferson he caught his first touchdown of the year in Week 7 against the New York Jets and had four catches for 62 yards the following week. Calvin Austin III also reaps the benefits with a breakout game in Week 8 against the New York Giants with three catches for 54 yards and a touchdown — also adding a 73-yard punt return for a touchdown.

The Steelers hope to further silence their critics. Heading into the bye week atop the AFC North and hoping to get some key pieces back from injury, Pittsburgh hopes to continue its winning ways at Washington in Week 10. While the offense moves the ball effectively down the field, the Steelers hope to use the break to help end previous drives in the end zone and not settle for field goals like they had to in Week 8.

The Steelers’ offensive success looks to extend after the bye week

With Wilson putting up points for the Steelers and team possibly looking to make a transaction before the deadline to add weapons, the offense looks like they are ready to take another step forward after the bye week. Offensive coordinator Arthur Smith has really turned the offense around as he already has two 30+ point games this season. The Steelers have been one of the more surprising teams, not only with their solid defense, but also with their efficient production on the offensive side of the ball.
