GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KJCT) – In the early hours of the morning, two people who fled the scene of the crime turned themselves in.

At 1:10 a.m. Wednesday morning, Jacob Konig and Nichole Melvin turned themselves in at the Mesa County Detention Center. Both had warrants for their arrest after fleeing the scene of the crime on October 10.

Jacob Ryan Konig is charged with the following:

  • Assault vehicle while driving in a reckless manner
  • Reckless driving
  • The police were not notified of the accident
  • He couldn’t stay on stage after the accident
  • Careless driving causing personal injury
  • Speed ​​(40 MPH over prima facie limit)

Nichole Serena Melvin is charged with the following:

  • Accessory for attacking the vehicle while driving in a reckless manner
  • Accessory for Couldn’t Stay On Scene/Information Given After Accident
  • Attempting to influence a public official

The Grand Junction Police Department says they would like to thank members of the community for their help in the investigation

Two suspects fled the scene after hitting a car.

Law enforcement officials said a truck was traveling at a high rate of speed and rear-ended a vehicle. The victim was transported to the hospital with serious injuries.

The Grand Junction Police Department said their investigation determined that the driver of the truck was Jacob Konig and his passenger was Nichole Melvin. The two are said to have fled before law enforcement arrived on the scene.

Both Konig and Melvin were issued warrants and are still missing. Police are asking for the public’s help in this case. Anyone with information is asked to call non-emergency dispatch at 970-242-6707 and reference GJPD incident number 24-52028. The crash happened around 28 ¾ Road and North Avenue on October 10. The victim is still in hospital.
