Police arrested 120 YSRC social media activists: Ambati Rambabu

Vijayawada: The YSR Congress has demanded strict action against the alleged police brutality on social media activists Peddireddy Sudharani and her husband Venkata Reddy. Speaking to media in Guntur, YSRC district president and former minister Ambati Rambabu pointed out that the police detained the couple in Chilikaluripeta and tortured them for five days through a social media post. He called the incident a grave violation of human rights and called for swift and uncompromising punishment for those involved. He expressed deep concern over the treatment of women and ordinary citizens by the police, saying no one should have to endure such intimidation or violence for exercising freedom of expression.

Rambabu urged the police to act impartially and ensure that those responsible face the full force of the law. He further criticized the police for filing false cases against over 120 social media activists. He alleged that the police harassed YSRC activists for their social media posts and refused to take action against crimes committed by Telugu Desam supporters despite complaints, raising questions about police impartiality.

Rambabu cited the case of former minister Vidadala Rajini, who filed a police complaint for defamatory social media posts against her. Despite presenting evidence, the authorities did not act on her complaint, which demonstrates police bias and selective enforcement, he lamented. He criticized TDs for abusing the law by pressuring the police to serve their political interests. Rambabu alleged that under the influence of Nara Chandrababu Naidu and Lokesh, the police had become weak and biased. He warned that if political parties controlled the police, it would affect the criminal justice system and weaken the rule of law.
