Florida Power and Light is proposing a temporary financial recovery plan rate increase

PENSACOLA, Fla. — Florida Power and Light unveils plans to pay for repairs after four hurricanes in 14 months.

The damage started with Idalia in August 2023, followed by Debby, Helene and Milton this year.

The company wants $1.2 billion to recoup restoration costs, plus $150 million to rebuild its storm reserve.

They are asking the Florida Public Service Commission to allow a temporary surcharge on monthly bills in 2025. Their proposal shows an increase of $8 for customers in Northwest Florida and $12 in other parts of the state, based on 1,000 kilowatts used per month.

More updates to come after the Public Service Commission meeting on the proposed rates.
