FEMA will open a disaster recovery center in Beaufort County this week

BEAUFORT, SC (WCSC) – The Federal Emergency Management Administration will host a disaster recovery center this week for Beaufort County residents affected by Hurricane Helene.

The center will operate Tuesday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Burton Wells Recreation Center in Beaufort, FEMA officials say.

Representatives from FEMA, the State of South Carolina and the US Small Business Administration will be available to provide information and no appointments are necessary.

The fastest way to ask for help is to visit DisasterAssistance.gov.

Applications can also be submitted using The FEMA app for mobile devices or by calling toll-free 800-621-3362. The hotline is open every day and help is available in several languages.

If you use a relay service, such as a video relay service, closed captioning phone, or other service, give FEMA your number for that service.

Earlier this month, FEMA granted the county an Individual Assistance Declaration under the Major Disaster Declaration that President Joe Biden issued on September 29. This means Beaufort County residents who suffered uninsured damage or loss from Hurricane Helene are now eligible to apply for federal. disaster assistance to help with their recovery.

The Individual Assistance Program provides financial support for temporary housing, home repairs and other disaster-related expenses not covered by insurance, FEMA says.

An IA Statement also makes it possible for businesses that have suffered losses, including property damage and economic loss from Hurricane Helene, to qualify for assistance from the US Small Business Administration.

Burton Wells Recreation Center is located at 1 Middleton Recreation Drive in Beaufort.
