Missouri’s new driver’s license system will go into effect in November

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Long lines and wait times add up to almost any trip to the DMV, but the Missouri Department of Revenue is launching a new technology in the hope that it will make obtaining a license faster and simpler.

On November 12, the department will activate a digital tablet-based system for license applicants at its offices.

The technology will reduce waiting times to make applying for licenses easier, the department said in a press release.

The current system consists of 50 different software programs that essentially do not talk to each other.

While offices across the state transition, there will be some closures:

  • November 6: License offices will be open for motor vehicle transactions only.
  • November 7: Some offices will be open for motor vehicle transactions only; the rest will be closed.
  • November 8-11: All licensing offices will be closed statewide.

The department will continue to update the vehicle process. Drivers can expect it in 2026.
