SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) – The Sarasota Police Department has upgraded the charge against Joshua Slieff from DUI with Serious Bodily Injury (Felony) to DUI Manslaughter (Felony).

This change follows the death of the driver, who succumbed to his injuries.

The fatal crash occurred at 11:51 p.m. on Oct. 23 at the intersection of Fruitville Road and Tuttle Avenue.

Video evidence and witness statements indicate Slieff was speeding when he rear-ended a Toyota sedan stopped at a red light.

The passenger of the Toyota was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say alcohol may have been a factor in the crash.

Slieff was charged with the following:

• Manslaughter (murder) (x2)
• Refusal to submit to a blood alcohol test

Slieff is being held in the Sarasota County Jail without bond.
