Andrew previously revealed how Paul was instrumental in getting him through a tough time after his beloved mum Nora died suddenly in March, right in the middle of the awards season spotlight.

“I love Paul, he’s like that, so…keep it up…,” Andrew said The Sunday Times. “Obviously it’s been a tough time recently and he continues to be a wonderful friend. It’s everything.

“The more I work in the industry, the more I realize that you do things that people love and you do things that people don’t like, and all you’re really left with are the relationships you make. I love him a lot.

All Of Us Strangers sees Andrew as a screenwriter drawn back to his childhood home who enters into a budding relationship with a mysterious neighbor played by Paul.

The film is an adaptation of Taichi Yamada’s 1987 Japanese psychological novel Strangers.

Director Andrew Haigh previously said that Paul and Andrew were “fearless” when filming their sex scenes in the new film.

Talking to Vanity Fairhe said: “There was chemistry between the two of them literally the second we saw them together.

“They were both pretty fearless. He had no sense that they were afraid to approach those scenes. They knew how important they were.

Paul stars as the former heir to the Roman Empire, Lucius Verus, in the new blockbuster Gladiator II.

The film follows Lucius Verus, the former heir to the Roman Empire, who is forced into slavery and eventually driven to fight in the Colosseum in an effort to restore glory.

Early reviews from critics called Gladiator II “the best film of the year” and a “true epic”, while praising the performances of Paul and Denzel Washington.

With Russell Crowe’s legendary Maximus long dead and buried, Lucius (Paul) is the avenger who must fight for his freedom in the film after being enslaved and snatched from his wife and daughter by General Marcus (Pedro Pascal).

In a new interview with Variety Paul recounted how there was a scene towards the end of the film where a weary Lucius mounts his horse in hot pursuit of Macrinus.

Paul was keen to do his best for the action-packed moment and the other stunts so “rehearsed for months” – before Ridley changed his mind about the scene.

Paul told the publication: “Two weeks before the scene, Ridley says, ‘You’re not doing it,’ and I’m like, ‘What the hell?’ and we had this fight. ‘

Ridley had decided to cut the scene because of some equine advice he had received on another film

Paul added of the altercation: “I was constantly bothering him. And then, the day before, he says, “OK, you can do the stunt, but if you get away with it, it’s two Bentleys.”

He eventually managed the move in just a few innings.

It comes after Paul revealed last week that he had become so ripped that he felt his body “could do some real damage” after his intense training sessions for Gladiator II.

The star explained that after training with a fitness trainer, riding horses and learning to fight, he began to feel strong and powerful.

Paul, who had no previous bodybuilding or training experience, transformed for the role in Ridley Scott’s film.

he said Sun.: “You start to feel like your body can take damage, which is weird.

“It changes the way you move and operate. And that’s kind of a fun place to live in, when it’s imagination.
