Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas Dev Reveals Abandoned Feature Decades After Release

I almost had a very different map.

Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas was a hit from Rockstar games. From their success with Grand Theft Auto III and Grand Theft Auto: Vice Citythe players had a new change of scenery. We don’t need to tell you much about this game now. After all, he just celebrated his twentieth birthday. However, a former developer reveals an abandoned feature decades after its release.

The developers at Rockstar North probably had some ideas for this game that never came to fruition. Developers often work against what the actual console hardware is capable of using. However, that was not the case when it came to this abandoned feature. Former Rockstar Games developer Obbe Vermeij revealed that they once planned to split the game into three different maps.

Taking to XObbe revealed that although the memory was very suitable on the PlayStation 2, they were able to remove three cities. Essentially, players in the game would have to use different modes of transportation to get to these areas. These include trains and planes. However, each map would have distinct police, ambulances, fire trucks, vans, and even weather types so it wouldn’t feel like a copy-and-paste between every location in the city.

We do not know why this path was not taken. Instead, Obbe only noted that before work began on the three maps, Rockstar North had a meeting and decided to focus on one large map. It’s an interesting bit of information for such a classic game installment.

Right now, most Rockstar Games fans are eager for the studio to bring new information regarding its next installment. GTA the franchise. We know that Grand Theft Auto VI is in the works for a release sometime in 2025. But we haven’t seen any new marketing material released since its initial announcement trailer.
