Apple will make it easier to read App Store reviews

Apple Intelligence promises to bring a lot of features to the Apple ecosystem, but one of the most interesting is summarizing the text. Conformable 9to5MacApple plans to bring the same feature to the App Store. Before you download it, you’ll be able to see a list of the most common complaints and praises for an app.

There isn’t a ton of news about this feature yet, so we’re being a little light on specifics. If we had to guess, the system will work similar to Amazon’s product page summaries. The AI-generated review summaries found on most product pages likely follow the same format that Apple reviews will. It also appears that Apple will generate the summaries itself, rather than using on-device processing.

Apple hasn’t revealed any information about when the feature might go live, but the code for it is already in the App Store API. Although there is no guarantee, this fact indicates that the release could happen at almost any moment. For an app to receive reviews, it must be available in “selected countries and regions” and meet a certain number of reviews.

If a summary is not a great descriptor of an app, then developers can request a review of any inaccurate summaries. However, developers can’t remove the summary themselves — Apple will have to step in. It’s an effective way to prevent malicious app developers from gaming the system, while giving users an easy way to see if an app is all it’s cracked up to be.

Fraudulent reviews are a common problem on every online platform, but Apple says it has been vigilant in removing fake reviews. Last year, Apple published more than 1.1 billion reviews on the App Store and removed about 152 million that weren’t legitimate.
