Man arrested after Ben Stokes’ home was broken into by masked robbers while family inside

A man was arrested following a burglary at the County Durham home of England cricket captain Ben Stokes, police said.

Stokes said his wife and two children were at their home in Castle Eden during the burglary on October 17 when his OBE and other valuables were taken.

Durham Constabulary said a 32-year-old man from North Yorkshire was arrested on suspicion of burglary overnight. He has since been released on bail while inquiries continue.

Stokes’ wife Clare and children Layton and Libby were in the house when the robbery took place, with the cricketer left for Pakistan in the recent tour of England. Stokes said the incident had an impact on the “emotional and mental state” of his young family.

The attack took place on 17 October, the third day of the second Test against Pakistan, Stokes’ first match after two months out with a hamstring injury.

Stokes released photos of some of the stolen items, which include his OBE medal, an England cricket ring and a lion necklace that includes the words “some may be better but none will be braver” (a line said by Jack Leach to Stokes’ England). in 2022, that became a team mantra).
