Congress must act: America’s safety depends on border security, not presidential promises | Opinion

If your wife is anything like mine, she digs deep to discover the truth. She watches the news, listens to podcasts and reads widely, always looking for facts. Like many Americans, he has come to realize that some in the media provide “truths” designed to serve the interests of a person, an agenda, or an entity. Some even ask him not to believe his eyes.

Nowhere is this phenomenon more evident than when it comes to border security.

Just the other day, I came across one Washington Post article that repeats the tired statement: Immigrants commit crimes at a lower rate than US citizens. The point of the piece was to undermine Donald Trumphis positions on illegal immigration. But here’s the problem: the claim itself is suspect at best, especially given the lack of reliable data over the past few years. It’s a red herring, meant to distract you and make you second-guess what you’re seeing with your eyes.

The truth is simple: c And the enrichment of violent Mexican cartels? It should have been avoided.

But because significant parts of the mainstream media have convinced too many Americans not to believe what they see with their eyes, all these tragedies have happened—and at an alarming rate.

In recent weeks, polls have shown another shift in voter sentiment and who they might vote for in the presidential race and on ballots in swing states. Why? Because spin loses its luster and people go back to their own observations and experiences.

Americans are waking up to the facts: their dollar isn’t stretching as much as it did a few years ago. Crime in cities is out of control. The world is becoming more dangerous by the day.

And yes, the southern border is wide open.

People are starting to realize that the lies are not coming from their own eyes, but from much of the mainstream media.

When it comes to border security, the solution is not complicated. A strong policy is needed and in the immediate term it will make a difference. But politics alone is not enough. If we depend on executive action alone, we are left at the mercy of whoever occupies the Oval Office.

In recent years, we have seen how dangerous it can be.

The long-term solution must come from Congress. We need proper legislation to remove total control of border security from the hands of a single president. This legislation must enable the implementation of updated policies and ensure the security of our borders, regardless of which administration is in power.

My wife, like many of you, has learned that the truth is out there. She doesn’t have to rely on the mainstream media, who will push any narrative that increases their bottom line. Instead, she fact-checks what she hears against what she sees with her own eyes.

You can do the same – trust what you see, because your own eyes are not lying to you.
