The Bookseller – Rights – Transworld acquires Frederick Forsyth and Tony Kent’s sequel to The Odessa File

Transworld acquired Frederick Forsyth and Tony Kent Revenge from Odessacontinuation to The Odessa file (Arrow/Viking), written by Frederick Forsyth and Tony Kent. This new title comes 52 years after the first book was written and is about “the dangers of ignoring our past”.

Forsyth’s long-time publisher Bill Scott-Kerr and editorial director Finn Cotton acquired UK and Commonwealth rights, excluding Canada, from Jonathan Lloyd to Curtis Brown. The book will be co-written by Kent, represented by Kerr MacRae at LPA. Meanwhile, Tom Colgan, vice president and editorial director at Berkley, acquired the American rights for Putnam.

The synopsis states: “Set in the summer of 2025, the novel follows the nephew of Forsyth’s original hero Peter Miller, Georg, a successful podcaster living in Berlin, who stumbles upon evidence that Odesa—a Nazi network whose purpose is to -return the Nazis to power and resume their criminal regime – it has resurfaced and their next attack could change the course of history.”

Forsyth said, “While The Odessa file was a figment of my imagination over 50 years ago, the political realities it describes are still very much with us. I’ve been toying with an idea for a sequel for a few years and luckily, working with the talented Tony Kent, we’ve been able to conjure up an exciting new contemporary story that brings the story up to date, one that shows that some things just they never go away.”

Scott-Kerr added: “I was delighted The Odessa file when I read it as a conspiracy-crazed teenager many years ago, so when Freddie proposed this new book, Revenge from OdessaI jumped at the chance to revisit its characters and themes. I have worked with him over many books and have always been amazed by his unparalleled ability to take contemporary events and weave a thrilling story out of them. This new venture will be no exception. Its pages will not only hold up a mirror to the modern world, but entertain at the same time.”

Revenge from Odessa will release on August 28, 2025 in the UK and September 2, 2025 in the US.
