PHILADELPHIA, Pa. — An 18-year-old man was shot early Saturday in what police are investigating as a possible break-in in Northeast Philadelphia. The incident happened shortly after midnight in an alley behind the 1400 block of Benner Street, according to authorities.

Officers from the 2nd Precinct responded to a report of a “Person with a gun” around 12:25 p.m. Upon arrival, they learned that the victim had already been transported by his mother to Jeanes Hospital with a single gunshot wound to the abdomen. , police said. The victim was later stabilized and transferred to Temple Hospital for further treatment.

Preliminary investigations revealed that three male suspects approached the rear of the victim’s residence. One of the suspects forced entry by kicking in the back door, authorities said. As two of the suspects attempted to gain entry, they retreated to the driveway where they encountered the victim returning home.

One of the suspects opened fire, hitting the victim in the stomach, police said. The three suspects then fled west through the alley.

The investigation remains ongoing as authorities try to determine if the incident was a botched burglary attempt.
