The Missouri Department of Revenue will modernize the driver’s license renewal system

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KY3) – The Missouri Department of Revenue announced a timeline Thursday, forecasting the release of a new software system for handling driver’s license renewals.

The new processing system will be launched on November 12, with several blackouts in the preceding days.

The DOR said the closures are planned as follows:

  • Wednesday, November 6 – License offices are open but only available for motor vehicle transactions. Driving license services will be unavailable.
  • Thursday, November 7 – Some license offices will be closed and many will remain open for car services only. Driving license services will be unavailable in all offices.
  • Friday, November 8 – All licensing offices across the state will be closed for system conversion.
  • Monday November 11 – Veterans Day. All licensing offices will be closed statewide for the federal holiday.

The DOR contracted with Fast Enterprises, a Colorado-based software firm that already works with 21 other states.

This update is considered the first of two phases, the second being a review similar to the state’s driver’s license renewal process.

“We want to thank our customers in advance for their patience and understanding during the transition. We’re confident they’ll agree it’s a small inconvenience compared to the benefits the upgraded system will provide once it’s fully operational,” said Missouri Department of Revenue Director Wayne Wallingford. “The second phase will be for the Department’s vehicle system, which will allow the two systems to ‘talk’ to each other. This final improvement will make transactions much smoother for our customers and our frontline staff.”

Wallingford said the department will immediately begin updating the motor vehicle licensing process as soon as those updates are finished. This project is expected to be completed in 2026.
