Aurora postal worker praised for saving stranger’s life – NBC Chicago

A Chicago-area postal worker was recently applauded for saving another person’s life after springing into action while on the route.

Jaylen Lockhart was working Saturday afternoon in Aurora when he noticed something that didn’t seem quite right.

“I was looking at him in my rearview mirror and he crashed,” Lockhart said.

Lockhart didn’t simply call 911; got out of the truck to help.

“I’m trying to get up at the same time and, and … he told me to sit down, just sit down, you might get hurt and there’s no going anywhere,” said Guy Miller, who fell while walking his dog, Bentley.

Lockhart called in some neighbors to help — and convinced Guy to give him his home address.

The postman found Marcia, Guy’s wife, then turned back to finish his route.

Guy’s family posted the story on social media — to share their thanks.

“I was raised that way,” Lockhart said. “I was raised like this, my parents, my family… Just, you take care of others. You know in the state of the world today, just kindness and grace is all anyone needs.”

The postal worker’s selfless act will be recognized by the city of Aurora next week. But more importantly, he’s gained extended family in the Millers, who will open their home to Lockhart’s family to celebrate Thanksgiving.

“I said, ‘What are you doing for Thanksgiving? do you have family Yes? I said, ‘We’re definitely family,'” Marcia said.

Marcia said she thinks Lockhart went above and beyond.

“It’s so good to see kindness and compassion and care in the world … when you see so much in the news and so many labels that this generation is into themselves and doesn’t care,” she said.
