Class, government work stoppages now down to local executives – Palace

MANILA, Philippines — The Presidential Communications Office (PCO) announced Sunday that the decision to suspend classes and work in government offices is up to local chief executives.

According to the PCO, “Following consultation with the relevant government agencies and the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), the cancellation of classes and/or suspension of activity in government offices is given to the respective local executives, taking into account the situation in the localities their respective.”

Earlier, the Palace issued suspensions of government works in response to the effects of various tropical cyclones that swept through the country.

Meanwhile, local government units have issued class suspensions in accordance with the Department of Education directive, which states that class suspensions for both online and face-to-face learning at all levels are automatically applied when the state weather bureau raises wind signals, an orange or red rainfall warning or a flood warning in areas under their jurisdiction.
